~ Excerpt ~

My phone finally flashes up with Lilly on the way home.

‘Finally, bitch!’ I scream down the phone as soon as I answer it.

‘I know!’ she says. ‘Sorry. Been mad busy. This PA business has taken off like you can’t imagine. It’s fucking non-stop.’

‘I know the feeling.’

I look over at Michael and Izzy and immediately turn away, feeling uncomfortable. She’s stretching his leg on the Limo floor. Completely inappropriate.

‘So what’s the drama?’ she asks. ‘Five voicemails and seven texts. Has someone died?’

‘Nope. It’s far better. Me and Ryan are getting married!’  God, just saying it out loud makes me feel all giddy.

‘No fucking way!’ she screams. ‘You must be a fireball in bed, Pops!  How you managed to get someone that deliciously gorgeous to marry you. Jesus, my mind boggles.’

‘Oh thanks,’ I say flatly.

‘You know I’m only joking baby-doll. So tell me, how did he propose?’  She sounds like she’s on the edge of her seat.

‘Oh, well, it was just after Jemima was born. I was holding her and he asked to marry me.’

‘Huh?’

‘Is there a bad line?  Did you not hear me?’

‘No, I heard you, babe. It just sounds like the worst proposal in the world. Proposed to in a hospital with your friends exploded vag still on the floor. Yuk!  But hey, what’s the rock like?’

‘Oh…I haven’t got one yet. I assume he’s going to let me pick it.’  I really must ask Ryan about that.

‘You haven’t even got a rock?’  She sounds so disappointed.

‘Well…not yet. Jesus, we only just got engaged!’  I laugh nervously.

‘Ok, babes. I’m sure it was…magical,’ she says un-convincingly.

I like wearing yoga clothes and reading fitness magazines while I sit on the sofa and eat chocolate. I’m a real fan of the power nap and of course, READING!
